Primal Pleasure

Primal breathing is about inhaling a deep full breath and sounding as you release, activate and open your energy.

This practice also works with invocation, meaning that you invite a quality or an energy to emerge from within you. Decide together as a couple what energy or pattern of consciousness you want to invite to emerge.

This can be:

• A god/goddess

• An element like fire, water, earth, air or space

• A quality like pleasure, orgasm, aliveness or wildness

When you do an invocation, you are feeling it emerge from within you but you can also feel it coming down inside of you. The idea is that by the end of this ritual you will have completely embodied this quality.

For this practice, you can move into lovemaking, or you can do any sort of other sexual activity such as oral sex, manual stimulation, kissing or whatever feels good to you.

You will be periodically encouraged to initiate the primal breath, so after following your impulses very slowly pause whatever you are doing and make your way into a position that will allow you to resume your primal breath. This may be through staying connected in intercourse, lying together on the bed, lying separate on the bed or even standing up on the floor.

If you are having sexual intercourse, then do the primal breathing while still being connected (penis in vagina) but stop the thrusting. Focus on the primal breath, and not on the lovemaking.

You can almost lay still but be sure to breathe in and out deeply, sounding and moving your pelvis gently.

If you are doing anything else, like making out or having oral sex, then slowly pull apart but stay energetically connected and do the primal breath.

If you are not lovemaking, you either want to be lying on the bed or standing.

If lying, have your knees to the ceiling. Inhale and exhale while feeling your pelvis rock and let your sound be wild. Let any accumulated energy come out of you. This exercise really works when you let go, intuitively sounding and breathing deeply.

If you are standing, then rock your pelvis back and forth, with a heavy breath and sounding. Really let go!

Step 1

Decide what quality, pattern of consciousness or energy you are going to invoke in this process.

Step 2

Start the process while sitting across from each other, and your intention is going to be that you fully embody this quality that you have chosen to work with. State that intention out loud, one after another.

Step 3

Then consecrate, offer up this quality that you are invoking, for example: I offer up this experience or I offer the fruits of this experience to:

• Fire

• A Deity or Spirit

• Pleasure

State the consecration out loud.

Step 4

Start standing, with your feet hip-width apart and start with deep, primal breathing. On the exhale, your pelvis comes forward, on the inhale it swings back.

Start with intense, deep breath, and if you hit a wall just keep going. If you need to at any point, make sound, growl, let your whole body move and open up, and keep going for it and for the deep primal breath.

Step 5

Now stand completely still, internally say the name of the experience or the pattern of consciousness that you are invoking, and feel it activate within you. Become it completely.

Step 6

Now follow your impulse. Whatever you intuitively want to do moment to moment, listen to your body and your impulse as this pattern of consciousness or as this quality. Be impulsive together.

Step 7

Now come to a pause and start the primal breathwork again. You can do it lying down or standing, or in intercourse if you are in it, but remember to be careful with each other while still breathing deeply. If you are not in intercourse, let your pelvis rock back and forth and release, be raw and full in your breath.

Step 8

Now come into stillness, and again invoke the pattern of consciousness or the experiencer by saying its name over and over again internally, feeling it strengthen and filling your entire system.

Step 9

Now follow your impulses together.

Step 10

Slowly come to a pause and then begin primal breathwork.

Step 11

Come to stillness and do the invocation by repeating the word over and over again inside, and feel it completely embodied and anchored within you.

Step 12

Follow your impulses again.

Step 13

Whatever you are doing, pause and do primal breathing.

Step 14

Do one final invocation.

Step 15

Now follow your impulse for as long as you can, and when you feel finished, you will rest, integrate and give thanks to the quality that you just embodied.
